Having bought Classic OS4.0 when it first came out for use with my Blizzard060/PPC 60Mhz/240Mhz and being sorely disappointed with the speed at which it ran, I can only hope the OS4.1 has had some major speed improvements made to it to make it useable.

I not getting my hopes built up though as I very rarely use 4.0 due to the speed issues and also the fact that the one and only update for 4.0 was way back in June 07, when purchasers of Classic OS4.0 were left in the lurch when support for it seemed to be abandoned.

So I will warily keep my eye on it this time to see what others think of it first... ;)

This is good news. It seems like a lot of folks that bought 4.0 for classic were pretty dissapointed and went  back to 3.9. I'm glad they decided to do this.

I have to be honest, The only thing I use my OS4.0 partition for is the DVD burning program AMIDVD. Even then I only use it to create the ISO file as I haven't finished writing my own one yet, then I quickly switch back to OS3.5 to burn it as my own burner progs work faster on the 68K side than the OS4.0 PPC ones.

I still however would like to see if there is any improvement in OS4.1 but will be very wary of it, as past experience and lack of support for 4.0 has left me a wee bit sceptical... :)

I assume that OS4.0 and hopefully OS4.1 works at a reasonable speed it you have an RTG board such as the BVision connected, anyone able to confirm this for me... :)

Yes, and with Radeon one could assume even better performance and graphics ram.

Is it just me being a dummy, but how do you get a Radeon GFX board to work on a Classic Amiga...

With an Elbox Mediator PCI busboard or Prometheus PCI busboard.

A PCI Radeon graphics card, as publically mentioned by Hyperion at Amiwest, is planned to be supported for OS 4.1 classic machines.

Currently the best graphics card for OS 4.0 classic would be the Voodoo series, the 3, or 4, which max out at 32MB video ram.   A Radeon would allow upto 128MB of graphics memory and faster internal operations vs. the Voodoo cards on the classic machines running OS 4.1.

I've been so obsessed with trying to find a BVision card that I totally forgot about the Mediator, although I'm not sure if Elbox are still in business as I haven't seen their site updated in years.

Anyone use a mediator on an A1200, and if so how good is it...
