I'll be following this with interest too - as I'm in the process of doing exactly the same.
I can't see any need for a CDROM though; once you're networked, what's the point?

With a CD/DVD writer the point is, you can easily backup your HDs, you can create, edit, remix & rip audio CDs, store lots of data, pics, gfx etc.. that you can then easily swap between one Amiga to the other.
There are ton's of use's for A CD/DVD drive on the Amiga, I would be totally lost without them, never used a floppy for years now...
