hello!

I'm wondering if the Amigas have component compatible outputs. As I have a HD Box here from hong kong somewhere, which works great with XBOX 360 etc. even Playstation 1 and 2 on VGA Monitors. Image quality is decent.

As the HD Box only has three inputs that are R, G and B, I'm just curious if they would work with the amiga RGB output?

Anyone tried yet?

Regards
jed

Not quite sure what you mean by HDbox, do you mean a High Def TV or one of the little boxes of tricks that convert RGB to VGA etc...

The amiga video port gives out RGB signals but you also need to use the composite sync signal or the horizontal & vertical sync signals.

If the box you have only allows for RGB input and no sync signals then usually this is looking for a sync signal placed on the green output signal.

Sound complicated, but it's not really, could you give more specific details about this box your using... :)

Just had a quick look, it's similar to a box I use. It should be possible to use the RGB + horizontal + Vertical signals from the amiga via the VGA input. It will depend on the box itself if it can sync down low enough to be able to use the standard amiga sync frequencies. :)

I don't think you'd be able to directly add the horizontal & vertical syncs straight onto the green signal, without a bit of technical wizardry. Never tried it myself to be honest, but I wouldn't think it would be a good idea. (no the amiga doesn't provide sync on green).

Reckon you can only hope that the VGA input isn't just passthrough and are able to use the box that way. Hopefully someone else out their may have used this box before and can advise you a bit better... :)

This place sells lots of converter boxes, they are good quality, but can be a bit pricey, plus I don't reckon you'll be wanting to have to buy another box right now.
