Last comment on that thread ftw:  "It baffles me how Anyone with computer skills especially coding, could not be in demand and prosperous.
Of course personal problems and health would negate that I suppose."

It's simple the market is flooded.

However personally I wouldn't consider any money given to kalamatee a handout.    If you put a $ amount on the amount of work he's put into AROS he's literally given the community $100,000's worth of his time.

On a final note if people want to get something in return for donating to him.  I will consider it a paid subscription for future updates of FinalWriter  to anyone who donates $5 a month to him.

Competing articles to the contrary, there is no shortage of work out there.  I can't even walk down the street around my office and not trip over help wanted signs.

Must be nice in my area you can't walk down the street and see a single one.

i dont want to speak for anybody, especially as im not really informed. but think of what might happen if the community so to say "hired" someone like that for their benefit, a work he obviously enjoys. this obviously addresses aros community in first place, but who knows. wile i doubt it a little, but what if enough funds might be gathered this way to guarantee stable income and steady development, rather than looking for some dumb job?

+1

I know more about his situation than most but it's not my place to say.   All I can say is some things are hard to move away from.

I that was the case Hyperion, MorphOS devs etc all would be working full time on their respective OS with all of our support.  It's time for a real j.o.b.  We'd all love to work on what we love, at home, our own boss etc.  Sometimes that doesn't happen.

I see we view this differently... you view it as a handout I view it as payment for services rendered.

But he wasn't charging for the services,  so essentially you'd be bailing him out.  Either way, I don't care.  I'd just go look for a job.  If there isn't one in my city,  then it's time to move.

Ahh gotcha so if someone doesn't put an actual price tag on their time it holds no value?   You are free to consider it whatever you want.
