Re: Amiga inc

While I've never looked into Amiga's acquisition of Ruksun/Amiga Dev India, I've got a feeling that this might explain some things.  From a brief look at their site, Ruksun appear to be a decently sized company, with a fair few products (two of which are hosted on AA) and probably international ambitions.  Amiga inc have the name and the AmigaDE technology that Ruksun appears to have made some use out of, but no real products or infrastructure to speak of.  If I were Ruksun, I'd have wanted to buy up A inc cheaply - the Amiga name would give them a bit of help expanding abroad, and they'd gain full control over the AmigaDE if they wanted to base any further products on that platform.

Now, while the reverse appears to have happened (A inc acquiring Ruksun), I'm well aware that lawyers are perfectly capable of obfuscating any transaction of this nature.  The alternative is that Amiga's investors were interested in getting hold of Ruksun and chose to do so through A inc.  Whatever - the end result would be pretty similar; Amiga's direction being steered very much by Ruksun/ADI, and A inc themselves acting as little more than a legal entity and a shopfront.

The Kent Events Centre sponsorship makes more sense then as well - ADI/Ruksun probably have the money for that, and that'll make them seem all-American to US customers who may otherwise not feel quite as comfortable dealing with an Indian firm.  The Amiga name itself would probably help them in Europe, as well.

If something like this is the case, you have to wonder what it spells for AmigaOS and related developments.  Ruksun/ADI appear to have lots of synergies in terms of hand-held devices, but if they are in control now, how would they feel about AOS?  We'd just have to hope they didn't simply view it as diluting what they want the "Amiga" brand to be...

All speculation of course, and apologies if someone's mentioned this months before (I haven't really been following Amiga so much lately)
