Just get the icons lined up how you want then go to the "Window" menu and go to "Snapshot", "All". It's been a while since I've used a 1.x machine but from what I recall it's identical on all releases.

Or select the icons to snapshot and use the "Snapshot" command from the "Icons" menu to only hold those in place, and not the position of anything else.
