Hi guys,

I just sent the following email to Massimiliano explaining a problem I encountered with level 2, and I'm just curious whether anyone else has experienced the same thing or not.

==========

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know I tried out your port, and it looks great, and is very fast compared to the 68k version.

I did however run into a problem on the second level. The first level played fine, and I was averaging about 20fps at 640x400.

The second level however did not play fine. When you start the second level, you start in the bottom of a vent or elevator shaft, and as you exit the shaft (into an open area, like a parking lot or something like that) there is a bad guy flying around in a plane. I don't know if it is caused by the plane or what, but my frame
rate dropped to about 4 fps, and the game suddenly became totally unplayable. As soon as I stepped out into the open, I was dead before I even knew what was going on.

Just thought I'd let you know that although there were no crashes or anything like that, all of a sudden the game runs into real problems.

Cheers,

Hi guys,

Can you do us a favour, and stop posting non-Duke releated stuff in this thread?

I'm trying to provide feedback to the author about his port and share my findings with others, and this thread is getting overwhelmed with non-related content.

Thanks,
Stuart

Yep, I tried it at a bunch of different resolutions. At 320x200, I was getting about 60fps. I also tried 400x300, 512x320 and 800x600.

400x300 and 512x320 framerates were as I expected (it seemed to be a pretty linear decrease in framerate as I raised the resolution in steps.)

800x600 was pretty slow - can't remember the fps.

As for what resolution the game was designed to run in, I'm not sure. As you increase the resolution, the game gets better looking, but you can see that the textures and the character models are limited when you get up closer to them.

Cheers,
Stuart
