Hi,

Just wanted to let people know that Hyperion's port of Quake 2 is awesome. In my opinion, easily the best, most impressive game to make it to the Amiga.

If you haven't tried it out, I highly recommend it. And, although I haven't had a chance to try out this new update yet, I tried out the one released just before Christmas, and it gave a noticable speed improvement.

I haven't tried the 68k version yet (just the PPC), but I'll give it a whirl tonight and let people know how it performs (i'm guessing it must be okay, or else Hyperion wouldn't have released it).

-Stuart.

Don't be so skeptical. I highly doubt Hyperion would go to the effort of a 68K version for emulator users given that they can already play Q2 on their PC.

I didn't get a chance to try the 68k version yet, but I'm sure it must perform ok for Hyperion to have released it.

There are a lot of people out there playing Quake1 on an 060, and in my opinion, Q2 plays as well or better than Q1 on my system, and there's a lot more going on in Q2.

fyi... prior to getting my PPC, I had a 66mhz 060 which I played quake1 on. I used a few of the speedup patches available on aminet, and I got about 17fps (not stellar, but definitely quite playable). If I recall correctlt, that was at an 80% screensize.

You have to keep in mind that the Q2 engine is much better written and optimized than the one used for Q1. Also, Q2 makes use of 3D hardware (which does a good chunk of the work) whereas the original Q1 ports did not.
