You'll be using a CF hard drive, right ? Well CF cards are nothing if not easy to swap.
Have a 3.1 (Classic WB) on your main 4GB card, and then have several more on smaller cards. You should be able to find used 256MB CFs for a Lipa, or for free even Install WB 1.3 on them just for the fun of it. Feel the ultra retro system Then switch back to 3.1 for serious work. Do a mutant system of your own on a third separate card and use it to test and experiment the hell out of Amiga software

Aga to the rescue

I remember those HD prep programs being tricky. One would not do the trick, and the other did it just fine.
Sadly, I forgot which one's which

On the top of it, I remember some WinUAEs will do the CF prep just fine, and some wont. I think 2310 is the safe bet.
Something to do with not saving the changes correctly or... ?
Anyway, 2310 + one of those HD prep utils will do the trick.

Tell us the types of connectors (male or female). Adapters can have both.

44 pin side (2.5") has female connector, 40 pin side (3.5") has male connector.

I even installed Windoze XP on a CF card for fun

Well, "my" adapter goes straight into the 40 pin IDE port. No cables necessary.
But I don't know if this is possible inside the A500. Is there room ?
If not, the go with that other adapter + cable for additional flexibility

Same thing with 2.5 adapters for A1200/A600. There are some that go straight on mobo's 44 pin. And some which require a cable, but are more flexible to move around.
