040/060
« on: June 28, 2003, 03:31:25 PM »
I'm wondering, I know the '040 is slower than an '060. But how significantly? The '060 cards are a pretty large price jump. I'm wondering how well both handle MPEGs/AVIs, and just general performance, I could care less about playing MP3s, I got a stereo.

Ok, we've established the '060 is significantly faster (it's also significantly costlier though :P )

The audio in these movies goes at about 55KBps, video around 100, the resolution is usually a little under 360x240. 29 Frames/sec.

I can make them into any format I want on my computer (I believe) so lets assume they're all MPEG's...

What's the minimum processor spec to run these at say, 15-20 frames a second. Can 040s do it? Can 030s do it (I wish)? Can 060s do it?

How baout an '050 ;)

My challenge for people who have these systems (or can do the math) to help me out, since I'm trying to figure out how cheap I can be (I'm not exactly in the possesion of endless cash)

Hmm, by the time I do get an accelerator, I'll probably get a Picasso or Opalvision card (graphics cards) so throw that on the heap too. (Is an OCS amiga,...)
