Grapevine on A600
« on: July 24, 2011, 08:30:45 AM »
Hello, I've posted on other forums and had no response with this one.

Basically Grapevine runs fine on my 2MB A600, except when joining channels with more than 20 users; it crashes. If I log on to a channel with less than 20, its ok, even when the number of users increases beyond 20 over time. I've re-installed both Grapevine (current aminet download) and AmiTCP30b2 a few times with no luck. Plenty of forum threads of people using grapevine with no probs, one even quoted 80 users. The guide gives no clues, increasing all the buffer settings in grapevine to max doesn't fix it, nor does adjusting addbuffers or stack with amiga DOS. Grapevine crashes at the point when joining a channel as about20 Names have been listed in the channel window, the User list window doesn't get to appear.
What else can I tell you, 2GB IDE to SD adapter hard drive, ClassicWB68K, around 600k ram available with Grapevine and AmiTCP running, no accelerator.
Rather frustrating!!!
Cheers mutch.

Hi fellow aussie amigans! and thanks for the replies.:) I did give snoopdos a go MelbourneBen but couldn't really deduce anything (thats probably a mutch issue!)
Bit of a shame then, at least its not me if Grapevine does the same for you Cammy. I'm no expert in AmigaDos, just tried a few things as it seems to be some kind of information overload when all the names stream in. Would be great to know how to code and dive into the source. Using telnet for IRC, the problem doesn't happen, but then its not a groovy interface and you have to remember all the /NICK and /WHAT commands:(. I agree, its a fun little program, I'll have a scout through aminet and see if there are any other smallish IRC apps.
@ MelbourneBen; get yourself set up on IRC with Grapevine at least, I've found you bump into the nicest people, like Cammy!  Check out Cammy's list, we have a local server in Bris for the freenode channels at roddenberry.freenode.net you can use as well. EAB is at irc.abime.net#abime.net and if you are interested in Aros (lotsa fun on a spare PC!) try #aros on the freenode servers.
