It might be just a RAM expansion like for the A1000, only sideways going so in can plug into an A500. Maybe Microbotics had those metal cases made so that they could use it either way and just plugged up the other hole. It kinda looks like there's a edge connector in the middle under where that slot is on the other picture so perhaps the insides are also made for wither A1000 or A500 use like how some cars have the possibility to have both right and left hand steering wheels.

I think it's the Starboard 2 with Stardrive expansion. I had one of those badboys for the A1000 but the case was different. I think maybe this is just the A500 version. And, apparently you can remove it from the case and put it in an A2000. Neat.

I sold my Starboard 2 with 8MB RAM and without the SCSI expansion for something like $50, off ebay. I think if I snagged up this one and tried to resell it, it would take forever to get rid of like mine did until I lowered the price. I'd say people just go and buy it if they need it and not worry about trying to turn a quick buck.
