Yup. They changed the deal.
City officials asked Amiga two weeks ago for the first payment sooner than originally planned after recent news reports of past financial problems involving the company. When the naming rights were announced in April, the city had asked Amiga for the $2.5 million payment when construction of the events center starts.
I would think, though, that Amiga could refuse the early payment and just procede as originally agreed. But, from that article, it looks like the Kent people are playing hard ball and are threatening to not go forward with construction if Amiga doesn't pay early. Too bad that would mean no minor league jockey in Kent, though. The people of Kent sure picked some winners to put on the city council.
