That value is based on rarity, not on any given usefulness. Here's an example: any old copy of TSR's Dungeon Masters Guide for AD&D can be had for $2.00. However, even people who don't play
any version of the D&D rules, but instead other fantasy RPGs, still regard it as a great gaming tool.
