I cant subscribe to that train of thought. Just because he's lucky to survive (which I agree is the most important thing) doesnt mean everythings ok in the world. The poor guy has had his world turned upside down and has lost a lot of what is dear to him, not to mention the value of his collection. Collectables can be valuable and I'd be just as sympathetic if he collected tea spoons.
Right. Life and health are most important, but losing a unique collection that probably took a lifetime to build is sad to see. Chances are his home and the rest of the contents are also a total loss.
