For those of you on Facebook...
« on: July 29, 2010, 02:32:13 AM »
After all the years of my badmouthing social networking, I've finally taken the plunge. It got to the point where it seemed like I was the only one in the world not on Facebook. I've also made a point over the years of not putting personal information or photos online, so I guess this is a complete 180.

Anyhow... I've created one picture folder so far with retro pictures, 69 so far of mainly the 128T. I'm thinking of dumping what I have left of retro pics over the years to some folders. Facebook is very easy in this way. If you are into this trendy social networking thingy like it appears I am now or you just want to see how goofy redrumloa is, send a friend request to redrumloa on Facebook.

I've deleted so many pics over the years, but what I have left I can post to new albums if interested. I probably have another ~75 of the 128T in progress and probably another ~400 of random retro images from over the years. Let me know if interested. Nothing huge, I probably purged a lot of the good stuff over the years. Just fun for the retro junkie.

Christ! next thing ya know, TheGoose will get f-ing facebook account and a cell phone! I like what Prince said, " the internet is over".

I had to start questioning why I was so much against it. Was it so bad, or was it me just being out of touch? Either way, I saw no use for it... Until I started getting friend request (no account) emails from good friends I have not spoken to in years. Also, another close friend who is far more anti-social than me signed up recently. I gave it the chance and so far it has been a positive simply for connecting with a handful of friends I have not had contact with for years.

Maybe Facebook has matured, we shall see. For the moment I am enjoying myself posting goofing old photos and looking at ones posted by friends.

red,
i think i'm the last one to refuse to use facebook ;)

And I cannot give a strong argument why you must conform. I will say that I am finding mild enjoyment so far and I was dead against the concept early. Facebook in particular had some major privacy issues. I think they have improved on them greatly. Up to you, really. One thing I still refuse to do is turn over my email lists to Facebook, sorry no reason for them to need it.

Email lists?

They bug you a bit for your email log in and password, they search your contacts for other people on facebook to send them all friend requests. No thanks...

I have refused, the nags have gone away.

Nah, I am here with you. Social networking in and of itself is not an Evil Thing(tm), however, the way Mark "I'm the CEO, Bitch!" Zuckerberg implements it is not only a Bad Thing(tm) but a Dangerous Thing(tm).

I read an article recently about how Facebook is today what AOL was in the 90s. And I have to agree to a degree. I will be waiting for the next decade before I jump on-board.

Sounds funny from a guy who used to have all of his legitimate contact information and birthday in ICQ and on his personal web page. But then, that was the 90s. The threat landscape has changed drastically since then.

Your information is out there, Facebook or no Facebook. Sad but true.

I've created a new folder and uploaded 200 more retro related pics. It appears 200 is the maximum per batch.

Neat! Among the pictures is the infamous "confidential" press pack that announces a 4q 1999 release date for OS4 and a 2q 2000 release date for OS5

Also called a "bovine movement" when people do something senselessly/unknowingly in mass.

You mean like a bunch of retro geeks afraid of a new technology? Sorry, but it goes both ways
