WTF? How can they possibly assume that all A1-owners were registered on Amigaworld.net?

WTF is correct, but remember AWN was the "Official AmigaOne support site". My feelings on that subject is well know, I won't get into it again;-)

My WTF feeling has to do with the fact it was claimed the A1 firmware was different than a standard Teron board and had dongle code. OS4 supposedly on runs on genuine A1 boards and not Terons. I wonder if there is a fair use law governing this, I'd look into it if I were him. I wonder if he'd be legally entitled to use a copy of OS4 if it is a genuine A1.

And the sad thing is it'll probably be nigh impossible to find it via 'traditional internet search methods'.

Correct, I could not find anything Amiga related on PriceWatch.

Your feelings in this matter are irrelevant, as is AmigaWorld.net. You (and a few others) are just jumping to conclusions, and as usual, take every opportunity to get the "other side" a bit dirty. I could tell you what I think about "strategies" like that, but my feelings on that subject is well known, I won't get into it again.

Yaaa!! I am being accused of having a blue motive again!! That's always good for a few chuckles  What's so funny is if you check your registration log you will see I have been a customer, several times over, over the years. I bought a couple CSPPC board because "OS4 will be released for the classic first" but gave up in late 04.

You are looking for conspiracy when there is none, as always. If you put out a product, on a reasonably priced board with a warranty, I may be a customer. MAY. So far you have failed to deliver.

I am starting to get the WTF feeling myself. AmigaOne's with an OS 4 license come with a firmware that enables you to boot OS 4. I don't understand where you see any contradiction to a fair use clause, because plainly, the person in question isn't even a customer of Hyperion, he bought the board second hand, without, as he says himself, a valid license. So what exactly is wrong here? If the board does not come with an OS, that's tough luck, but I do not see where Hyperion even ENTERS this picture - it's a second hand owner (or rather third hand) of a repaired board.

One board, one license right? Although honestly I am completely confused by the fact someone pointed out OS4 stand alone is for sale at Veselia :-? The board only came with OS4 (in theory) and only OS4 comes close to running properly on it. Every board sold had a license. I just don't see the issue, but heck, not my company. It's just something for me to keep in mind when and if you do have a product available for sale. That along with mandatory registration for product updates is a big turn off.

Meh, I'm ranting. You may very well be legally right, it just tastes funny.

The fun part is that the whole affair is already about to be cleared up, but of course, that doesn't stop people from making a big fuss about it.

I hope your right, but I'll believe it when I see it. The Sam board looks to have promise, if the price isn't other worldly and has most bugs are ironed out.

If I end up paying full whack for it, I would want to know that I was buying a full retail version, not an OEM version, and thus if my A1 broke I could then use the license on my CSPPC, but should it come to it this is something I'll discuss with Acube/vesalia/hyperion/whoever. I'm not there yet, and was just musing.

OS4 was only ever sold as an OEM version.

That's what I thought, until someone posted this link :-o

Contact Vesalia and ask them about it. I actually brought this up some time ago, on AWN I believe, and Vesalia responded that it is due to a limitation of their stocking system that it must appear on the website. But, they don't sell it separately.

Uummm.. Ok :-?

LOL! yeah, Load_WB can just buy *another* board that comes with OS4! Replacing a busted CD is so easy in the OS4 world...just buy a whole new system to go with it so you always have plenty of backup!

Come now that's not what I meant. I meant the hardware looks intriguing, should the thing actually work at a reasonable price.

Integrated Flash memory devices controller
Up to 4 serial ports  (Yes, I like serial ports)
64 pin for I/O General Purpose
FPGA

Of course I would have no interest unless a Amiga-like OS was on it and so far I see nothing to imply it will become available. Amiga Inc seem content to allow OS4 to die on the vine. I also have no interest if the Sam/OS4 bundle is $1,000.

But we are getting OT here. Let's start a new thread if we want to continue.
