While I agree with the theme of your post, i have to disagree about Slipknot. Nu-Metal in general is pathetic. Linkin Park being called metal does nothing but piss me off to no end. However Slipknot on the other hand, i think many old school metal heads (like myself) are too quick to write them off assuming it's another KoRn or Limp Dipsh|t.
Slipknot's first 2 albums had were metal through and through. The first album had a little bit off crossover to it, but it could be forgiven by the sheer angriness of the album. By the Second album Iowa, that cross-over was scrapped and it was just plain heavy. Slipknot's newest album isn't bad, but it's a little too polished. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. Don't get me wrong it's good, but doesn't seem to have quite the anger or overall heaviness of Iowa.
The only thing I will say is watching interviews with them, without the masks while doing their solo stuff was painful. What a bunch of dweebs:-P I keep thinking oh shut the hell up, put the masks back on and play something.
