New Amiga.org member introduction :)
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:14:11 AM »
Hello everybody! First of all sorry for my bad English.

Let me introduce to community another new Amiga.org member :)
I am from Sevastopol, Russian NAVY base on Black Sea, but now have job in Kiev, Ukraine.

I've got my first Amiga in 1998, it was A600 and it was very cool after ZX-Spectrum :) Then i upgraded it with fast memory and hdd, and in 2000 i've bought A1200. Some months later it got apollo 040 and 16 mb fast.

For 3 years it was my only computer for studying in university, surfing Internet (Ibrowse was cool, so many open windows at one time, said my PC friends :). I also made with A1240 first job as a reporter in local newspaper. Also i made some gfx as we had scene computer group (mainly for ZX Spectrum (yes, i made gfx in Dpaint for Speccy too), but there was something and for Amiga. For example, i made some graphics for oldschool-like intro for one of the issues of Jurassic Pack diskmag.

In 2003 my Amiga was died. There is big problem with repair of Amigas here. I can't wait long time - so i've got PC - I needed computer for job.

All those years I lost interest to Amiga, but last september I began to read Amiga news sites again.

I don't use emulators. I want to get new Amiga, may be Natami or PPC one, if it will have office and good browser.

I want to make something for Amiga. I can make graphics and also now i working as journalist in one russian news agency (BTW, we made news story about Natami-motherboard some weeks ago). I think about starting Amiga news site in Russian. There is only one russian Amiga web left.

But I haven't skills in web-programming and so on. May be somebody can help and make site for russian Amiga news?

Hi Grunge

Welcome to the nuthouse... :)

I've noticed on google analytics that only 5 folk from Russia visit my CommodoreScotland.com site, so there at least 5 Amiga users in your part of the world still active... :)

I think that number of active russian Amigans is bigger. But Amiga was never very popular in ex-USSR. Best days was 1994-2000. Most of russian Amigans - ex-ZX-Spectrum users (as i am too).

Today there still working russian Amiga IRC and one Amiga news site.

I don't know anyone from my old Amiga friends who use it nowdays as main computer. But i know 2 guys in Sevastopol who have working a1260's.

I also know guy with Pegasos here, but he use mainly powermac with morph os.

Hello Grunge and welcome!

If you still have your old Amiga hardware you may be able to get it repaired. Amigakit is one option but there are probably many more who you can send it to to get fixed up and running again.

I am using my Amiga 1200 but I also run Amiga emulated on my PC.

Have you looked into AROS as a possibility?

Thank you, but i don't want reanimation of my old hardware. Its old and not cheap. But i want new Amiga computer (i think there are many people around the world who wants one, but why we don't have new hardware :-)

Truly speaking, because of job, i haven't time to fix my old hardware and system. I need new Amiga with turn on and play, as in good old times.

I don't know why Natami team don't think about netbook or laptop design :)
