KiskStart image
« on: January 21, 2003, 02:54:33 PM »
Hi..
I have a problem.. I have an A3000 Softkick machine.
I upgraded Workbench to 3.1 several years ago but
did not get a SuperKickstart disk with it. I am still
using the 2.04 file that came with the machine.
Does anyone have the A3000 -3.1 file?
I own the software so it shouldn't be illegal if
someone was to EMail it to me, or where can I
 download it???

Hi...
I'm not sure you understand what I am saying.
The A3000 Softkick machines take a special
Kickstart. My machine CANNOT be booted up
  without this Kickstart (SuperKickstart). When
it is first set-up the kickstart is copied from the
disk to the harddrive then it will boot from the HD.
My machine has NO burned-in rom. It does have
its advantages, I can boot from 1.3 or 2.04 just by
holding the mouse buttons on start up. I don't
beleave normal machines can do that without
a rom switcher. My machine came from
Commodore like this. Its an early A3000, before
they burned the roms for them.
So I beleave it is perfictly leagal for someone
to supply me with the kickstart file as I DO own
the software (perchased from Software Hut).
The Kickstart image from a rom chip won't
work. It has to be from an A3000 softkick.
There is some added code to make it reconize
the Harddrive, thats why just grabbing an image
from an A500 or A2000 or whatever will not work.

Thats the problem....
I am perty sure that grabbing the image from an aga machine won't work, as I said, the added code wouldn't be there. I hadn't realized this machine was
such a novelity when I bought it (new).
I pulled a program from Aminet by a guy in Germany
that will format the floppy and prep it for the
kickstart file, BUT I need the file, he didn't include
it. I guess he was correct in doing so. But that doesn't solve my problem. I don't see any legal
reason why I shouldn't have it, as I said, I do own
a legal copy of WB 3.1. When I bought it Software Hut
said they didn't have any copies of the Kickstart disk.
So as a result I beleave I didn't get everything I payed for.
 Still NEED HELP

Thanks guys ... :-)

I got what I needed. A gentleman whom I let remain
nameless (although I'm sure it was legal) supplied
 me with the correct file.
 Anyway thanks
