CyberVision64 GFX card question
« on: May 28, 2004, 04:54:39 AM »
I have a CV64 GFX card with 2 megs ram installed.
The box that it came in says there is a 2meg and
a 4 meg version.
The card has 8 ram chips (256k chips) for a total
of 2 megs. Now 4 of the chips are serface mounted
and 4 chips are socketed.
I'm not going to attempt to remove the serface mounted
chips but the socketed chips can be changed easily.

The question is if I install 512k chips in the sockets
will I have 3 megs of usable ram?
And will this work at all ??

Hmmm..... This card was new in box when I got it.
The box says its a 2 meg card, Dopus says its a 2 meg
card, and I did a search on the chip numbers and they
are 256k chips.
There are 8 chips total so that makes it 2 megs.
This seems odd......... (this card was new)

So the question is still,... can I upgrade 4 of the
chips and get 3 megs ram?
Will it reconize 3 megs or does it need to be 4 megs??

@Patrik

Yes the chips are 256x16.
These are the chips 'HY514260B'

 >This should be the case as the width of the Trio64datapath
 >is 64-bit and for the minimum 2MB configuration with 4
 >chips, the chips would have to have a 16-bit wide datapath
 >each to give a 64-bit width when combined (4 * 16 = 64).

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.
Can you put it so a dummy (me) can understand??

And with P96 I can display 1024x768 24bit mode.

@Doobrey

>So if you have 8 of these installed, you have the full 4Mbytes.
>Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

Thanks .........

Yes it clears it up.
The card performs great, just thought if it had more to
offer I should upgrade it and get it all.
