Got the HD from Ebay for a whopping dollar :) 4.3GB should be enough.

You'll have problems unless you stay under 4 gig on the HD
unless you use another file system (not FastFile System).
(I've not had any luck trying to use just the first
4 gigs on a larger HD)

Also you have the Softkick (ver 37.xx roms), you can
softkick the 3.1 rom file if you can find the correct
file (I used to have it but I lost it in a HD crash).
It will require the kick file with the bonus code.
Not just any kick file will work, it has to be that one.
And you can't use an accelerator with those roms.

The stupid {bleep}s on Amiga Org will not be able to help you with your Amiga 3000 problems, but I can.  I own 2 Amiga 3000 computers and they work great.  It sounds like you have one of the old Amiga 3000s which has the Kickstart 1.4 Bootstrap ROMs on a \"ROM-Tower\".

I don't think any A3000 ever shipped with 1.4 roms.
To my knowledge they either shipped with OS 2.xx or
the softkick OS 37.xx roms (my A3000 came with 37.xx roms).
(Hmmm is the ver 37.xx roms actually KS 1.4 ? )
You can listen to Doomy if you want but I think it would
be a mistake. Most of the info you get here on the Org is
very reliable.

If you don't have the SuperKickStart disk I can EMail
you a DMS copy of it.
