I'm assuming you do have the jumper set for external
CPU. You will get what you are describing if not all
the jumpers are set correctly.
I had this same problem on my A3k when I first installed
a 3640 card. I later moved up to the WarpEnging 040 @40mhz.
I really like the WarpEngine.
Also if you are sure the jumpers are right, you can try
spraying some contact cleaner in the card slot.
I had this problem on my A2000, the slot was dirty and
sometimes the card would work and sometimes it wouldn't.
Assuming the card is good then if the machine runs
without the card it should run with it (with jumpers
set correctly).
