I've got IDEfix 97 with that unnamed buffer.

Never had any problems with it - used a 2.4Gb and 52x CD-Rom for a few years with it then changed the HD to a 19Gb one with almost no problems.  I originally couldn't see all of the HD, but it was due to not installing 3.5 until later.

I thought it was due to the power line on the IDE cable?

I've got a buffered one anyway so it's no bother to me :-)
