DS0 and diskspare.device
« on: March 25, 2003, 01:32:30 AM »
I've just had the chance to check out my new 19Gb HD and OS3.9 yesterday and today.

While reinstalling things, I found out that DS0 didn't work.

DS0 is a DOSDriver for DF0 that uses diskspare.device and allows almost 1000Kb per disk.

I have a lot of disks using this format, but OS3.9 doesn't seem to like it.  I downgraded to 3.1 for a while, but got the same result.

"Please insert a disk into ds0" is what usually appears.

I can't find my ds0.lha on my disks anywhere.  I've checked aminet (for ds0 and diskspare.device), but didn't get the dosdriver :-(

Can somebody out there help me?

I think it's FastFileSystem v44's fault that DiskSpare doesn't work any more. You say you downgraded, but FFS44 would still have been on your RDB and so its used by the whole system, including by diskspare.

I don't think it's possible to fix. Except by dropping FFS44 entirely that is.

In a seperate occasion, I had to install 3.1 on another HD today (which had 3.9 on before I downgraded).  Once 3.1 was back on the HD (with FFS44 and SFS) it worked fine, I was able to get all the stuff from the disks onto the HD (this is WITHOUT using the lha on the link posted earlier).

So, now I know that it's not FFS44 that's the problem, it maybe something in OS3.9, as I've never had this problem before getting 3.9.
