A1200 EZ-Tower & SD/FF

I have bought the DIY EZ-Tower Z4 and ScanMagic ScanDoubler/FlickerFixer from Eyetech.

Before I spend time and (well spent) money on a phone call, I would just like ask you lot for advice here.  I'll be phoning Eyetech tomorrow anyway, but I'd just like to get an idea before I phone them.  Here goes.

I have the A1200 and everything connected except the power.  I do not have the Z4 busboard so it tells me to do it this way:

> Connect the blue scotch lock connector to the -12 volts wire off an AT power connector.

I know which wire this is.

> Line up the blue wire that is not part of the power supply with the inside of the scotch
> lock (using the end which does not have the metal pin)

ok, so is this in the bottom of the connector or the top - I'm assuming that it doesn't matter though.

> Line up the  -12v wire of the AT power supply into the scotch lock, and the use pliers to squeeze
> the metal holder in place, and snap the cover over it.

I take it that they mean put the black wire (that you get with all the other bits) into the -12v connection and then put it into the scotch lock.  The scotch lock looks like it will chop part of these wire off.  Cud someone post a picture of what it's meant to look like or just give me a VERY detailed description.

This blue wire then connects to the middle pin of the A1200's power socket.  Is that it?  One wire going into the A1200 to power the mobo and accelerator?  Doesn't seem like much to me.

After all that it says you should remove the power connector which is connected to the floppy drive power connector.  What?  I must've missed something.  I don't have anything on the floppy power connector.  All I've got plugged in at that end is the LEDs.  I know that I don't need to remove the power connection because I don't have the Z4 busboard.  But what should be in there anyway?  The floppy is now powered by the AT supply now right?


Now onto question 2 (the last one you'll be glad to know ;-) )

The instructions are pretty simple for the ScanDoubler:

Right, ok, simple enough.  (I pick up the SD/FF)  Wait a mo.  I have 2 empty sockets on the SD/FF.  One has nothing elso on it and connects to another socket (which has chips on the other side), this then leads to the monitor connector.  Now, which one goes on top of Lisa (most action she'll have seen for a while :-D ) and where does the other one connect to?

Before I can check it I need to get the power sorted.

If I could be bothered, I'd take the motherboard out of the case and use my old psu, but that's too much hard work (it took 4 hours to get this far!)

That was easy.  It took longer getting the side case off and on than it did to install the thing.  Although Alice was easyclicked into place right away, but Lisa was a bit stubborn, had to try t three times before it would sit on Lisa.

Thank you very much for the photos, hope you didn't go to too much trouble for me.  If you did, I'll be owe you another :pint:

It's too late for me to do anything with my tower tonight (my other half's in bed and the tower is in the room next to where she is), but You can bet that after I've had my breakfast that's the first thing I'll try.

The wires on the Power that I've got have three (actually 6) black wires at one end, next to that is 2 (really 4) orange ones, and I can't remember what the other is, but I know it's not blue.  I checked which one was the -12v, but I've forgotten now.  Because I was unsure about the power, I just left it alone.  When I get started tomorrow, I'll check which one it is (I think it's one of the black ones).

I'm going to be REALLY carefull.  If something blows, I'll be without a Miggy for quite a while.  After spending money on the tower & SD/FF, and I'm getting a Blizzard accel soon, I'll have no money left.

Once I've got it sorted, I'll post here to let you guys know how it went.  If I don't post by 4pm (uk time) that means I've blown myself up :shocked: or my Miggy's died :cry:

If the latter happens, I'll be going cold turkey :-o  :-(  :cry:  :nervous:  :pissed:  :shocked:  :boohoo:

This is the tower I've got, it looks better in reality, but you'll get the idea.  (The only thing I don't like about Eyetech is their website, but everything else is excellent)

Got another question.  (I can hear you now "here we go again" :-P )

It's a very simple question.

Which way does the floppy power connector (from the psu) connect to the motherboard, ie. what coloured wire is on the left?

This is the first time I've had the floppy out in a loooonngg time, and I can't remember which way the cable plugs in.  Knowing my luck, I'll put it in the wrong way and blow the motherboard. :-(
