Setting up an A 1200T: Questions
« on: February 06, 2011, 04:44:06 PM »
Hi everybody! :) I am new here but not new in using Amiga. But i am completly new in creating a Tower and using the 3.9 OS. Therefore i have some questions...

The idea is when it is finished to have a 3.9 system with CD-rom and internet access :)

1. Is the CD-Rom connected to the PCMCIA "slot"?

2. If it is. Is it possible to have the network card and a CF adapter (for ADF Transfer Kit) connected at the same time? or is there other solutions?

3. Do i need a special CD drive or will anyone do?

4. Is it possible to install Amiga OS 3.9 directly to the HDD by using Winuae?

Thanks for the quick reply!

The reason why i asked about connecting the drive to the PCMCIA port was because i thought it would be impossible to connect all three (CD-rom, HDD and Floppy) to the same output. Sense i thought you needed a different (twisted) IDE cabel for the Floppy and another one to use with CD/HDD etc...

Thomas' guide looks really great! and that 4way IDE thing can be an idea, but i just remembered that you put the HDD and Floppy in different IDE connectors. So a correct installation would be to put the floppy and CD-rom together and the HDD by itself. Am i right?

And thanks for the Amibay link! It looks really intresting! I might find several useful things there :)

I have an old 4x NEC drive in my closet that I have used for my old IBM PC. It would probably be able to work well in the Amiga too. Since it worked even with Windows 3.1. So i don't think i will have any SCSI III problems with that one. I just hope it still works :)

Regarding the 4Way IDE device you connect the HDD and CDROM to that and the device connects to the A1200's IDE header.

OK! But does that mean that i must have a 4Way device to connect the CD-Drive? Or is it an optional extra if i want to install more devices? Could be good to know :) Sense i'm sitting here and writing a list of stuff that needs to be ordered from Amigakit.

The Floppy Drive still connects up to the floppy header on the Motherboard, you just need a longer cable. I have lots of these in my box of spares so if you need one PM me and I'll hapilly send you for the cost of postage only.

I just checked my own collection of cables today and i did not find anyone long enough, so you could send me a PM!
