The 800Mhz G4 is probably the best choice at the moment, especially when programs start to make use of the Altivec/VMX-support. It will take a while before we see the PPC 970 supported in AmigaOS.

Also, the mid-range 700Mhz G3 is a perfect choice, too, cause in normal operations, it proves to be FASTER than the G4 at 800Mhz! It may due to the 512kb L2-cache and how the 750FX G3 was designed. IBM has done an incredible job on the PPC chips! I am very happy about my choice, and a good advice to all of you! If you want ram, and if you live in Norway, go to PSData.no and you will be able to order to ECC 133 Registered 512MB SDRAM DIMMs for almost 1500 NOK!!!! One cost 729NOK! NO KIDDING!!!! This is the CHEAPEST i have seen yet!!! I was VERY suprised to see this! Great stuffs!!!!

Here we go then :-)  :-D

Well, in term of sofware, i guess you may be right, but the AmigaOne will have the advance of running Linux, and you can also run MacOS on Linux, so you should be just fine:-). Yes, i believe the 600Mhz G3-SE is more than enough, but XE allows you to upgrade your CPU at a later date, if you wish.

The first run of AmigaOnes may not be so very impressive itself, but when they start to support DDR/DDR-2 and 4x/x8 AGP among other things, then the real fun will start:-). Anyway, the AmigaOne deserves all attention, and it deserves the chance to join the market again:-)

I wholehartly agree with you, MartianM ;-) . PPC runs things much cooler than these Athlons/Pentium-stuffs, that's for sure! And if you want the Amiga as the main computer, the AmigaOne is  for you :-)  Go for AmigaOne-XE, if you want CPU upgradability.

Also remember that AmigaOne doesn't only have the option to run the new PPC-native AmigaOS 4.0, but for the moment it can run LinuxPPC and even the latest MacOS X Jaguar under it. Cool, i could run games like the Mac-version of Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast with AmigaOne.-). I think when AmigaOne is actually onto peoples' hands, then people will start to concentrate about what it can DO, and not what it CAN'T do. The option of having a dual-OS system comes in handy:-), and this is of course very important..

I also would like to point out that many people seem to underestimate the real power of creating music with a Tracker-program. Please DON*T, as with a modern Tracker, you will use the best in sound to create the music you want, the music you want people to listen to. Only your mind is the only limitation.. :-)
