Time frame for buying/downloading?
should be out before the end of the year. the ISOs are being prepped now for the CD printer.

How's Final Edition factor in for existing OS4.1 owners?

Example:  I'm a bought and paid for registered user of 4.1 for SAM440ep, running Update 6.  I'll be so bold as to assume I'll simply be able to download Final Edition, is this correct?
it's a DVD actually, so you'd order it from your local amiga dealer. it's a full OS release, just like AOS4.1 was.

I hope this means more software and hardware.
dunno, but we need it for personal paint 7.3, the new video players supporting the new radeonHD driver, and it probably will be the baseline requirement for libreoffice and the new AOS4 octamed soundstudio port that A-EON announced at the show.

so things are moving in a positive way. :)

I bought 4.1 once, not buying it again for some fancy icons.  4.1 Final Edition should be free to existing registered users.  OS4.1 cost me more than Windows 7 Ultimate did, after all.  It's a full release in the sense of it's got all the updates, I suppose if you split hairs.  It's also a sequential update in the 4.1 chain, a chain I already bought into once.

So I'll have to buy 4.1 Final Edition then 4.2 on top of that when 4.2 is out if I chose to proceed?
i understand your viewpoint, but i think you're missing out based on my usage. OS4.1 was released six years ago and we've gotten free updates ever since. this release has enough feature additions, performance and stability improvements, and the like to make it worth the thirty bucks. but that's just me, i guess.

Is AmigaOS4.1FE required in order for to make use of the programs announced at Amiwest (Amistore, Mplayer, CANDI, PPAint, etc)?
great question. the changes to graphics.library (and the rest of the graphics subsystem) and which are included in AOS4.1 FE, are required for at least personal paint v7.3. i believe that anything which will use the new composited video functionality of the new radeonHD drivers also requires the new OS.

i'll let matthew comment on amistore, but i don't think so, as i was able to run recent builds of amistore under AOS4.1u6 on my pegasos2 just fine.

Will the Installation media have all versions of the OS on it or will we have to pay for separate Pegasos II, BPPC, A1 versions?
there are separate CDs for each platform, but since you have to pay for every machine you have anyway, it doesn't really matter. of course i'd rather there be the ability to purchase a single CD and then licenses on top of that so i don't have piles of CDs about. but then again i suppose not many people have many NG amigas, er, well, um, i don't know. anyway....

there are separate CDs for each platform. :)
