OS 3.9 INSTALL PROBLEMS
« on: December 21, 2003, 03:53:04 PM »
Hi All,
Some of you may have read my earlier posts regarding resurecting my 2000's from zero.  If not, what it amounts to is that I started with corrupted hard drives and a bunch of other little problems.  I am happy to report that I now have a reasonable system up and running with a 3.1 ROM and OS 3.1 on it.  Yesterday I tried to install OS 3.9 from the CD.  This is a legal original copy that I bought over a year ago online from a well know dealer complete with manual, (albeit not much of a manual).  The install process crashed repeatedly.  Since I have been able to copy from the CD to floppies and run small programs from the CD I have pretty much ruled out hardware as the problem.  Each time I try to install it I got a software failure window that said "Program failed Error #80000003  -  wait for disk activity to finnish" and then gave me the option of "SUSPEND"  or  "REBOOT"  Since there is a " c/install on the hard drive as well as the CD I have no idea which one is the problem or if the wrong one is being used.  I am wondering if there is another way to go about the install process to get around this problem.

Been there, tried that.  The emergency disk function does not work either.  It could be that because I have the old low density drives that it won't work but I doubt it because it doesn't even try.  As a a matter of fact the CD is not as the documentation says it is.  On the CD there is no "CREATE EMERGENCY DISK" function to click on as the documentation states.  There is however an icon titled "Emergency Boot".  It opens a window which is really a drawer containing files that would be on a boot disk.  I may try copying them to a disk or disks and see what that does.

FIRST ANSWER:
As I stated in my original post it is original.  It is a factory made CD with a commercially applied label.  It is not a burned copy.  I do know the difference.

SECOND:
Inside the CD lewel case there is a very small instruction pamphlet that doubles as a liner much the same as used in music CD's.  I'm calling that a manual for lack of a better term.  It to is a commercially printed liner that no reseller could have done.  You probably have or had one and just didn't know it was or is there.

THIRD:
When I purt the disk in the CD drive I get two icons.  One is "Amiga OS 3.9" and the other is "Emergency Boot".  If I click on the "Amiga OS 3.9" icon I get a window where there is a "U.S. Version Install" icon.  If I click on that I get an error #80000003 and it say's  Software Failure, c / Installer.

FOURTH:
There is no CDDA icon.

FIFTH:
I have Anim CDFS 2.0

SIXTH:
I don't know what SnoopDOS is and I don't have it.

FINALLY:
I know there is a better CDFS on the CD but I need to be able to install it to make it work.

i would like to suggest you, to be more educated with who is attempting to help you

if you don't see the CDDA icon, there is a problem with your ancient filesystem

Bye, bye :-)

PS- The CacheDDFS present on AOS 3.9 CD, has its own installer.

I'm not sure what you mean by   " be more educated with who is attempting to help you".  If you are suggesting that I should ber more courteous maybe you have a point.  I admit to having a certain amount of impatience with those who seem to think they know more that they actually do and at the same time don't bother to read and understand what I wrote.    I recognize that most of the members here are far more knowledgable about these issues than I am.  I don't have a problem with that.  That is the precise reason why I sought help here.  I do have a problem with those who seem to have a know-it-all attitude and never seem to get the point I am trying to make.   In the case of the thread I started here it has turned out that no body figured out the problem.  I know that because I eventually solved it myself.  As it turns out, it was a mater of hardware.  I did not have the computer accelerated at the time I tried to install 3.9.  I installed software and a Blizzard 2060 and the  OS 3.9 installed without a problem.

I don't know if there are minor differences in issues of 3.9 but what I have is not the same as some of the members here have described.  That being the case it is hard to understand what others are telling me to do when I am not looking at the same things they are.

In closing, let me say that I made no attempt to insult or belittle anyone here.  I merely wanted to point out that some are not paying attention to the obvious.   That being said, I hope you will accept my apology if I have offended you because that WAS NOT my intention.  Consider this...  What is the logic in offending those I need help from.  It could be there are language translation barriers here that add to the confusion.  I strongly suspect that English is not the natve language of many here on these forums.  I admire and respect the efforts of those here who have taken it upon there own to learn a secon language.
