GVP 040 COMBO

I need some input from those familiar with the GVP 040 combo.  

I'm not sure but I think I am having problems that might stem from the GVP combo.

I have striped my 2000 back to the basics including removal of the GVP board.  I tested it over and over and it had no problem booting up from the floppy.  

I put the GVP combo back in with just the one HD fastened to it and it worked well.  It booted up over and over with out a problem.

I then tried hooking my Syquest 270MB removable media drive to the external scsi connector on the GVP card.  I had it terminated with a plug in terminator.  I could not boot up fron the HD on the card.  I shut down the system and pulled the terminator.  After that I was able to boot up again and agaim without a problem.  According to the GVP docs the terminator should have been in place.

I tried an NEC cdrom that I had used with this system for years.  It did not come up on the workbench screen but it did show up on the GVP scsi utility software.  To be fair on this one I have to admit that there may be some missing software for the cdrom drive.

I tried hooking up another scsi drive to the GVP and the system would not boot up again.  Originally I had two drives inside the 2000 so I know that this configuration used to work.

I went thru the GVP docs and all the jumpers are configured properly.

Given the above I am thinking there might be a hardware problem with the GVP combo.

I have another GVP 040 combo coming fron an ebay auction I won.  I plan to try it and see if it makes any difference.  I guess if it does make a difference that solves my problem.  If it doesn't then there is something I am missing here.

I am open to any suggestions or anything I should try.

I will add any results I get to this thread.  The GVP board should be here in two or three days.

I'm afraid you have me at a disadvatage here.  What is the difference betweem passive and active termination?  Would it be the incorporation of some kind of solid state switch.  All I was aware of was a bank of resistors which I assume would be passive.  What I was using is a plug that is just that.

What is or who is DCE/Phase 5???

I'm not in the mood to put big dollars into this thing so I doubt I'll be buying any new accelerator.

I might be interested in those Guru ROMs.  Are they available from GVP or do I look somplace else?
