Re: Amiga 4GB CF A600 Help

I have recently created a CF hard disk for my A1200 after a long while. I share this note in case it would be useful.

  • I first installed ClassicWB onto WinUAE linked to an hdf hard disk.
  • I was using Win7 (too bad :)), so I had to run WinUAE with administrator priviledge instead of -disableharddrivesafetycheck to mount the CF as Hard Drive into WinUAE with read/write option and UAE controller.
  • Once into the OS, I changed SCSI into SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=uaehf.device to recognize the CF card into Hdtoolbox (don't pay attention to the size that it is shown..)
  • I was using a16 GB card, so I had to install the SFS from Aminet with dostype  0x53465300, patched scsi.device (tutorial on ClassicWB  youtube channel) and again not pay attention to the partition size shown by hdtoolbox...
  • I partitioned 300 MB boot with FFS partition, and all the rest  as SFS (seen as SFS/00 into hdtoolbox) making sure to use the same set-up for all partitions (max transfer 0x1FE00,mask 0x7ffffffe,buffer 100)
  • After the reboot, I have quick-formatted the boot partition with Amiga util, while I used SFSformat for the large SFS data partition(s).
  • Finally I moved all the hdf files into the boot partition of the CF card with the Dopus, and changed back to SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=scsi.device
  • I plugged the card into my A1200 and it worked out.  My fab Amiga 1200 was performing better then ever :)
  • A final note on the A600 KS. With KS 3.1 you can use any partition/card size (assuming you have patched scsi and used SFS for data partitions). With 2.05 revision 37.350 you will be somehow limited to 4GB. With KS 2.05 rev 37.300 it should't work at all..
There are several procedures available...you may want to take a look at the Classicamiga wiki, which is the one that I used.

I am not sure whether this helps, but try to change the name into ram:junk  so files are not written into the floppy...
