BVision setup - It's been a while
« on: December 12, 2010, 03:04:10 PM »
Guys,

Firstly I can only apologies for my shame and ebarrassment here.

I've had 2 BVision + PPC combos in my history, one originally in 1997/98 (got the PPC first, added the gfx card later) and again later in 2002-2004.

I have to say that back then I was much more up with the Amiga community and knew everything I needed to know such as which Setpatch versions to use etc.

I sold my Bvision and PPC card in 2004, and have recently acquired another pair for my A1200T.

Although I recall the Bvision being a little tricky to setup, I've never had any major issues with it and so I've done a clean install of 3.1/3.5/3.9 and CGX4 from the CD.  I've tried all the versions of WB to see if It was a conflict, but the reality is that all of them recognise the card fine, and get to the same point where the system is stable, it's just I can't get any output recognised on my LCD screens.

I recognise the issues I'm having as I remember bumping into them before, but the main issues I'm having now is that it recognises the "CVisionPPC" (I remember I changed this somehow last time I owned one so that it had the correct BVision recognition) but when I test out any screenmodes, they are all "out of range" for any of my monitors.

Appreciate it might simply be that I need to use a different monitor, but I would have thought I'd get something out of the BVision. The monitors I've used so far are my LG1915s with a max refresh rate of 75, and my Sony TV with it's PC VGA connection, which should be able to display upto 60Hz with 1024x768 no problems (It does this from the PC). I've even tried really low resolutions with low frequencies to simply get a result, but alas even those are showing as Out Of Range.

Is it possible that LCD monitors aren't happy with the output of the Bvision? I would have thought they would still be able to be setup, but maybe they use different settings?

I've had a look at a few threads on here but most seem to focus on not registering the card or screenmodes. I can see the screenmodes, I just can't get any to display and have to press escape to get back to the AGA output.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong guys?

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good search string for these issues, as when I search for BVision or CVision or CGX it doesn't yield many results, but a few strings I've found through Google seem to refer to previous threads being posted.

Appreciate any help you can give guys!

Excellent tip buddy, cheers for that, I didn't know there was any sites left with Phase5 software dumps!  I'd been scouring Aminet and only found bits.

Cheers mate I'll give that a try.

Wicked, thanks for the replies guys!

I've gotten a little bit further which is that I followed the advice and reinstalled from scratch with just CGX CD (No Driver) and then installed the 42.7 CGX update and selected the BVisionPPC.

This then installed the correct driver and the only problem was that there are no screenmodes defined, so I had a mooch through and selected a 1024x768 24bit VESA res, and this worked!

I think I now need to go through and setup a host of resolutions, and get them to "lock" with the monitor.

As it stands though at least the WB is running much better on the BVision.

Many many thanks for the help, sometimes it just needs a nudge in the right direction!

I'm sure I'll be back as I intend to get everything set back up how I had it before, so I'm sure I'll need a bit more advice at some point!

Best Regards

Ben
