Does pciinfo show each usb port as a separate entry named "unknown"?  Mine does -- and I suspect that may be why it works.  What I mean is..  perhaps the Elbox driver, not knowing what the card is, lets it pass without running interference?

You can easily make usb-card (or any pci-card) "unknown" - check with pciinfo what name it returns for that card, search it from vendors.txt (that probably is in your S:) and remove that line from it. I haven't tried, but I don't think this causes the problem, but who knows.
