Delfina Lite vs AD516 for mp3 playback
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:53:46 PM »
I'm trying to decide which soundcard I should buy for mp3 playback.

I have a 040@40mhz in an a3000.

What would be the best solution?  They both have DSP's, would they both alleviate the cpu in a similar fashion?

Thanks!

If you are just looking at playing MP3s, a MAS Player works great.
While not a soundcard per se, works great for playing MP3s with very little overhead.

Thanks for the idea, want to fill a zorro slot with this endeavor.  The MAS is great bang for the buck!

There's no decoding driver for the AD516. So while it has a DSP, no one's written the software to take advantage of it for playing MP3s.

Thanks for the info Matt,

I thought the AHI driver did that.  This is good to know!

Do you have a delfina?  How stable is it?

Thanks for the great info.  I will get the Delfina.  Perhaps, I'll try MP2's to see if the lesser compression will result in better performance.

It will result in better performance, but also crappier quality

I would have thought with less compression the quality would have been better?

Delfina plays even higher bitrate mp3:s just fine, so I don't see why you'd need any trickery with mp2:s or so...

What is the highest rate that you have seen it run without crashing?  192 from what I have read seems be the max.

I'm with Matt on this one.  New Delfina Libs would be most welcome!

How would we get it started and who would program it?
