OS 4 Classic - Fresh start, dual boot?...
« on: January 02, 2008, 05:20:24 PM »
I read in the release about setting up a dual boot system, one setup for 68k and the other for OS4:

Has anyone looked into this? I'm getting ready for a serious Amiga makeover and trying to determine if this is something I want to do. I love old games and SoundStudio tracker, hmmm

I bought a new 160GB to do all this, hmmm. I feel Amiga stupid and challenged, it's been awhile.

Ok, I guess those two are both ' bootable ' partitions, yes? Another question, in what order do you think I should go at this? I'm thinking:

1. start with os4 install and setup partitions
2. finish up os4
3. come back and install os3.9 on empty bootable partition.

And... (step3) should that be a normal FFS , so 3.9 is happy with it? Cause the new one I assume is not compatible.

Thanks for the help..

One more dumb question. Do you know what the biggest partition OS3.9 can use, to boot from? Something tells me it isn't 4GB...

Must be something like 2GB?

Thanks. This is so much fun now. Hmm, life as a technical writer in the Amiga universe; what do they get paid?

"OS3.9 has the highest priority. So you don't have to go twice into early startup."

That maybe a better plan, argh not again. But I have come to another question about 3.9. What happens when I create my emergency 3.9 boot disk from having booted up in OS4?  :nervous:

Does it not copy stuff from your current system to the disk, along with some bits from the 3.9 CD? If that's true then my 3.9 boot up disk could be giving me troubles I think.

Seems like I need to have a boot disk that was generated from a clean 68k type system, because afterwards, my install is just haywire, crashes whenever I move / resize a window.

About setting up 3.9 - my ideas/fears were right. You need to either have some other HD or use original 3.1 floppy set to get going the right way.

I got a set from spihunter and it is fine, stable now.
