Guardian was a  3-D version of a Defender type game. It has awesome 'arcade' gameplay and  smooth controls on a stock A1200/CD32. Give it some fast ram and a 030  and it's rock solid. Yes, it doesn't have talking frogs, rabbits and  foxes and yes it doesn't have a pretentious plot but the gameplay is  awesome in a 'let's save the planet from invasion' kind of way (a bit  like the Resogun of its day). You have to avoid blowing up friendly  structures and there is good variation of enemy ships including boss  battles! A CD32 pad is a must for A1200 owners though.

Guardian  is under rated and Star Fox is definitely over rated IMHO. Same with  Bltiz Bombers vs BomberMan, The Great Giana Sisters vs Super Mario Bros.  and the same as Xtreme Racing vs SNES Mario Kart. There simply is very  little reason to idolise Nintendo if your an Amiga fan. Heck, Turrican 2  beats the hell out of Super Metroid too IMHO.

100% agree about the part about idolizing Nintendo.  I never understood why people thought they were so great, but then again, I went from Atari 2600, 800XL, Sega Master System (superior to NES in every way except software support (sadly the most important)), Sega Genesis (AKA Megadrive for the EU), Atari Mega STe, Atari Jaguar... after that a bunch of generic PC stuff, only current consoles I have are PS3 and PS4, which I rarely use.

Never was a big NES/SNES fan.  I have an Amiga 4000D and Falcon now, and they're still far more fun than a SNES or NES could give me. :)

Yeah, I'm from North America, but I've pretty much always been an Atari / Sega person, though respected the Amiga from a far when I was younger.  Sadly had I known the whole bit about the A8 and Amiga and 2600 were all created by the same guy/group... probably would have gotten an Amiga instead of the Mega STe.  That would have been pre-AGA, so probably would have wound up with either an A2000 or A3000.  Oh well, live and learn.  My younger brother was the one who eventually became more of a console owner, but then wasn't really interested in the complexity of computers, so that's probably why, but even then he never really was a huge Nintendo fan boy.
