Just saw this one on there;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OOAK-Amiga-Prototype-A3000-A3000T-A4000-A4000T-CSG-Super-DMAC-Gold-Leads-/331079576352?pt=US_Vintage_Computing_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d15e16b20

$500 bucks for a 'rare' prototype chip?  Actually I saw a large list of Amiga custom chips on there, most were $100.  I think they're all posted by this guy;  http://www.ebay.com/usr/goobug-nfi

This isn't an Amiga, but HOLY CRAP, especially for something that is marked as "Untested"

Time to list that Milan040 I got sitting around here :laughing:

While I would love one of those, it  unfortunately would probably just sit around here too!  I at least have my A4000D and my Atari 130XE set up.

TOS is kind of like the backend of the Atari ST's operating system, where GEM is the Graphical portion, in the same way that you would have a TTY on *nix with Bash or whatever, and X11 as the graphical interface layer.

Guess that's the best way to explain it.  Or AmigaDOS vs Workbench.  Or DOS vs Windows Shell.

Anyhow, if you wouldn't mind parting with it for cheap, I'll take it off your hands!  I have tons of ST disks just sitting in a room next to mine, and at the moment don't have any ST monitors.

I think a lot of the costs of PPC can be blamed on Apple/IBM.  If the fruit hadn't dropped PPC, then they'd most likely be a bit more 'commodity' than they are now.  IBM and some embedded systems are really the only ones using the architecture anymore.

As much as I think it'd be cool to own a PPC, my thoughts are this;

With a 68060 (which I now have, though it's at 50mhz and I'd really like to overclock it, but no one has overclocked a Cyberstorm MK I that I know of) you get the old classic feeling of the Amiga on real hardware.  There isn't a whole lot of PPC only software out there unless you run AmigaOS4.x  And Once you go with 4.x or MorphOS or AROS, then you're pretty much in emulation land for 68k software.  In which case I have a big beefy system with Arch Linux, Debian GNU/Linux and Windows 7 on it.  So I could emulate and / or use AROS.  This system costs less than that crazy ass posting of an accelerator.

So while the geek in me thinks "Hell yeah, gimme, I still want a PPC, because I've never owned one!", the realist in me thinks "would it be useful for anything besides saying "I have a PPC bitches!"?

Ha ha, the 040@25Mhz aren't really going for 400 bucks are they?  I left mine up on the shelf, after I finally scored my Cyberstorm MKI, though I think I overpaid for it, I wanted one really badly.  It now has 128mb of ram on it (was bought with 64mb) and it is really fast.

I kind of want a PPC, but then I don't.. 'cause then I'd be tempted to go all OS4 on my machine, and I don't think I really need it, since I mostly aim for getting a 68k machine that can be used for somewhat modern stuff.

Once I get much better, I think I'm going to try porting python 3 over to the Amiga.  :D

Sorry, ain't got no 060 @ 66 Mhz ! I do however think a $600 - $700 price for that seems fair :)

Don't think you will get $400 for your 040 @ 25 Mhz though :(

Ha ha, That's why my A3640 just sits up on my shelf.  I ended up paying 725 (inc shipping and handling) for my 060@50, but my system runs SO much faster.

Hey, that's a great game, worth every penny!

Actually the remake/re-envisioning version of it is pretty awesome.  Giana Sisters: Twisted Dream.

I think it would have been more epic on that one if he'd listed it as "Buy one now, get a second 10 dollar game that I'm going to charge 5,000 for half price!"

I guess these don't really qualify for absurd pricing, but look at the coloring differences!  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-2000-HD-Midi-Video-Software-Galore-Live-board-SuperGen-Phantom-/201130620370?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item2ed451b5d2  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Commodore-Amiga-2000-Vintage-Computer-Many-Cards-Loaded-/281397930478?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item41849fa9ee  The first one looks like it's straight off the production line.  The second one looks like it's been to a Tijuana Donkey Show!  slaapliedje

Yes sir, correct on all the above.  Also the power button switch tends to go (you can sometimes still source replacements from sources like Jameco), and the hinges on the monitor flap, especially on the 1084S, people kind of abuse many of those.  :/

I've gotten so many of the 1084's and 1084S's in the past year or so, just from the few lots of Amiga goodies I've managed to snag around here.  Ironically I don't even use them since I put Indivisions in my systems, they kind of become paperweights and things to trip over in my office, haha.  Gave a couple to another member on the forum here, and sold a couple others on ebay when nobody else seemed interested, etc.

Let me test this one out and think about it for a bit, and if you're still interested in this one I'll send you a PM!

Ha, you mind parting with a 1084S?  I have an Indivision for my Amiga 4000D, but I think it's possible to wire up a cable/adapter for an Atari ST, and that's what I'd be using it for (I have several, but no monitor as of right now that works).  Finding an Atari 1435 is extremely difficult.  I also have another monitor that has a busted tube, I was thinking of trying to swap my (theoretically) working tube in my 1435 with that other monitor (which currently eludes me to the model number at the moment) but that probably won't work.  The Atari monitor has a cracked PC Board inside where the cable connects, I may just try to fix that... fun times!

Every TV repairman is eager to repair old TVs and monitors: no SMDs, easy to replace capacitors, no imbedded processors.  All they can do with modern equipment is swap out boards IF they can find a replacement.  But a CRT that has lasted 30 years will likely last another.

I took my M1438S to a repair guy, and he said that the monitor was hosed, it powered on, but I think the tube was bad.  Sad days, looked like it would have worked great for what I needed it for.
