Need some advice on building a scsi cable...

I would advise against it. SCSI cables are very strict on tolerances, hence the reason why they are so expensive. They are not simple IDE flat ribbon cables! DIY cables can lead to all sorts of weird errors on the SCSI bus, and thus, ultimately, data corruption.

In other words, save the purchase until the next month, and enjoy your SCSI devices all the better for it.

Internal ZIP drive... Jeez. That's so... ancient. Ever since my PC was able to boot from USB memory sticks I've been phasing out all magnetic storage from my computer. I hear parallel quantum wavefront memory technology hasn't been perfected yet, otherwise that noisy thing knows as a hard drive would also be retired with utmost haste.

Either way, perhaps the SCSI FAQ (just type these words on Google) will help you further along. But still, I think it is better for you (and your data) to make puppy eyes to your friend, buy him (or her) a beer, and ask for a final extention of your borrowing his kit.

Of course. My comment was not meant to be derogatory or disrespectful---I had just forgotten there had ever been such a thing as a Zip drive :-P.
