Adding a network and/or CD-ROM to a 1200
« on: July 07, 2003, 06:00:34 PM »
Of late, I find myself wondering whether it wouldn't be nice to code some stuff for the Amiga (OS3, not 4) again. My c0|)1|\|g 5|<111z have improved considerably over the years, so the results could be quite interesting :). In any case, I would need to buy me a small system---a 1200 with a 68040 should do fine. No problem there. However, software either comes on CD, or via a network, and if memory serves me, hooking up a CD-ROM drive to a 1200 is not particularly easy. As for the network option, I'm not looking forward to using the serial port with its measly 11 kB/s transfer speed. I would prefer the machine to use TCP/IP over UTP cables.

Can some kind guru provide me with some information as to what the best course of action would be?
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.
