6. But if you are drinking too heavily: before you go to bed, drink lots of water. If you get up in the middle of the night, drink more. The hangover is mostly caused by dehydration, and this mitigates the headache/dead-horse-in-mouth effect to a great extent.
Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

Since you are a chemist, consider the following: ethanol is readily transformed into ethanal, which is the nasty chemical your body doesn't respond well to---and also causes hangover symptoms.
