A500+ No Colour, No Sound :(
« on: September 15, 2010, 11:19:59 AM »
Hello loyal Amigaites,

I've recently plugged in my old beloved Amiga which hasn't been touched for at least a decade and to my surprise not only did it work, but all of my media was still readable!  Even my old Amos programs!!  Excellent!!  But the bad new is that that it's all in black and white and there is no sound.  Boo!!

Is this a common problem for these ageing beasts?  Is it likely the A520 is the cause and if so am I able/likely to get/find a replacement?  Or is there a manual fix I might make to it?

Finally, do you think my old machine is sell-able (with around 30 working games)?  Unfortunately I'm emigrating next month and I can't be taking her with me - so alas she has to go.  But obviously preferably in a working state!

Thanks for replies in advance :)

OK, thanks, I'll pop her open tonight and take a look.  How will I know if it's the capacitors that are dead - is there an easy way?  Also, what is the CIA?

Make sure you got the right type of 520 - an NTSC type will have no color on a PAL tv and vice versa. You can check the sound by hooking your stereo to the RCA stereo plugs (or headphones with an adapter).
It's defo the right 520, its the original one I got with the Amiga back in '91/'92 :D
