There seems to be a lot of resentment in this thread.
A couple of key points to remember:
1) Nobody in OS4's seekrit HQ said "What we need right now is an artist! Quick, to the bountymobile!", rather someone wanting to provide some artistic input asked and a bounty was set up. So comments about wasting money supporting an artist instead of a developer is a bit irrelevant. No developer (as far as I know anyway) has come forward in the same manner. One would hope that if they did, people would be just as willing to pay for them to get a system.
2) It was a bounty. Absolutely nobody was under any obligation to pay into it. Ergo, the only people that did were those happy to do so. It's a fair bet that those complaining the loudest about it didn't pay into it.
You know what? Fair play to the guy, I hope he enjoys it. Considering that one of the common complaints levelled against the platform is the cost of ownership, perhaps a useful precedent has been set and somebody with some development talent who thought it was financially unrealistic might reconsider and we can all complain about it if they get one in a similar way
