Your pixels are fine, it's your texels that look dubious ;)

Your image appears to indicate "nearest point" texture sampling. Fast, but not pretty. Surely you can enable GL_LINEAR ? AFAIK, it should be the default anyway.

when I do a gl_texturemode the reply is gl_linear_mipmap_linear.. Is that what you mean?

Does adding +gl_texturemode gl_linear on the commandline work?

Try +set gl_texturemode gl_linear instead then. And I mean on the command line, when starting the application, not the ingame console.
