@T_Bone

Remember, kittens are not just for Christmas...

With any luck there'll be some left for New Years too :-P

It doesn't matter what dog you have...

I've seen cats take on dogs and win many times.

That includes alsatians, rottweillers, boxers etc...

:-P

Dude, death by asphyxiation from having bits of the cat lodged in your windpipe doesn't count as a win. That's just a draw.

Anyhoo, Boxers wouldn't hurt a fly anyway. You'd be hard pressed to find a gentler breed of dog.

Well, they might accidently drown the kitten in slobber while playing with it, but it wouldn't be anything intentional...

"Bring it on"

Are you sure you wanna take on the cats ?

 :-P

Prrrpppft, yeah like a few domesticated moggies are equivalent to 1 of those.

Hint: They are called big cats for a reason.

Wild felines everywhere hang their heads in shame at what humans have done to besmirch their predatory prowess in breeding the ginger tom :-P

Exactly.
And if you throw all the cats and dogs in the world into one big bag, shake the bag vigorously and wait for the fur to settle, I guarantee you the winners will be the ones with the whiskers  :-)

Of course. But that doesn't say which ones, given cats and dogs have whiskers!

Of course it will be dogs. Period.

The flaw in your reasoning is that you have to invoke wild cats; which in all honesty are feck all like domestic cats save a few vestigial behavioural patterns, in order to win the cat v dog battle.

Put all the *domestic* canines and felines together and it's bye bye to cats, forever.

:-P

(not that I would ever actually advocate setting one animal on another unless the latter was a chav an the former.. well something big, nasty and grudge bearing)

I know, my good man, and those are very big dogs you posted  :-P

@X-Ray

I don't care if you have handled lion cubs. They simply don't count. Only a nutter keeps them as pets :-P

The points you make about a dog's less savoury characteristics are fair enough. Most of these, however, are bad training.

Even if we allow your bad points to stand, their plus points so far outweigh anything a cat can offer it isn't even funny.

1) A dog can be trained. A cat will always do what the feck it likes.

2) A cat has never deterred an intruder (sole exception of above mentioned game cat keeping nutters) or a would be assailant.

When I was younger, some chavs tried it on whilst I was walking the dog (he was behind the bush at that precise moment, laying a few camines). They fecked off pretty quick when this large black & tan mass appeared and raised its hackles.

3) A cat has never rescued its owner.
4) A cat has never rescued a complete stranger or brought attention to someone in distress.

That old dog saw off a few unsavoury chav types pestering an old lady wating at the bus stop outside our house. I found him growling under the front door, put his leash on and walked into the garden. Said chavs again fecked off immediately, old lady makes fuss of large beast that was a moment ago straining at the lead.

5) Cats have never been used to sniff out drugs, explosives or do anything else which is of use to people in general.

6) Cats are lazy uncaring fat leeches that regard you solely as a source of food and shelter. For all his faults, a dog is a true companion and will willingly work for everything he gets.

In summary, cats are convenience pets that you don't have to make any effort towards (save food and shelter) and they give nothing (other than their tactile softness) in return.

Dogs can be every bit as fluffy, clean and cute as felines and still be useful too.

It's simple.

Dogs rule.

Pah! I have always considered you to be a cool person but now I know you truly are a very nasty and unfriendly person!

:-P

For the record.

Nowhere have I said I don't like cats. I just think that the reasons commonly given by cat fanatics as to why they are better than dogs are rather flimsy.

I'm presently not in a position to own either a cat or a dog as I would not be able to give it the attention it deserves.

Nobody should own a pet they are not prepared to take extremely good care of.

Hows that for nasty and unfriendly?

When I see them dragging their balls along the lawn, whining and yapping, I want to reach for a stick of dynamite. Fetch that!!

This is what I mean about bad ownership. Don't take care of your dog or cat and it will get parasites. Cats and dogs need immunisation, booster jabs, worming, flea control etc. If you aren't prepared to do this, don't own the animal in the first instance.

Personally, I would make cat and dog ownership subject to some sort of liscencing that would vet (if you excuse the pun) a person's ability to take proper care of the animal.

About sticks. If you wanr your cat to chase a stick, simply wrap it in something shiny. Cats love things that are shiny or make noises.

My old neighbours cat was even more 'stupid' than any stick fetching dog. It would happily chase a spot of light around the garden as long as there was juice in the torch batteries.

I grew up with boxer dogs and can vouch for the fact that they're very loving and affectionate creatures indeed.  However, it doesn't pay to get on the wrong side of one.

True of any animal capable of biting, clawing etc.

That said, you'd have to try damn hard to find the wrong side of a boxer's temprement in the first place.

Without exception, all the ones I've ever met have been patient to an insane degree.
