It was a transparent emulation-based thing to let AmigaOS 3.x run on x86 CPUs, with the added bonus of being able to compile and run Amiga programs to run on the x86 natively. In effect it was like running an x86 native AmigaOS as far as I gather.
Ofcourse it was killed off by licensing-issues, bickering, and big egos, like a lot of stuff in Amigaland.
