he was always going on about how the Atari had better sound than the Amiga, bit of a strange kid really, but that's the closest I've got to an Atari. 
That's the Amiga envy. I briefly owned an Atari 520 STe (Turbo Pack - Outrun was ace) which was returned within 2 months due to an intermittently faulty mouse port. In that time the main "benefits" over an Amiga 500 were that it was faster (by 0.12 mhz or something ridiculous), it had a built in MIDI port (not a better sound chip!) and had a built in transformer (no foot warmer - but I consider that to be detrimental in the British winter). Even the STe couldn't better the Amiga 500, it had nothing like a HAM mode or hardware scrolling.
