With a normal Blizzard 1240 (040/40MHz/FPU here), I can't close the trapdoor.  Instead I got a piece of rubber and jammed it between the side of the card and the casing to hold it in place.  Works for me.

I'm not sure what stops the trapdoor from going on exactly.  Probably is the heatsink/fan though.

re: noisy PC - a decent hi-fi system is definitely recommended.  Quake 3 sounds so much better, particularly when a rocket passes very close by :-)
