First HW problems with my new A1200...
« on: July 05, 2010, 07:45:24 PM »
I finally almost finished my A1200 setup. I installed it with the KVM switch, installed the accelerator, the 3.1 roms, and the Indivision AGA scandoubler.
But I had some problems with the Indivision. Basically, you have to "clip" it on top of Lisa; but it doesn't stick. If I push really hard, and then very carefully remove my finger and don't touch it any more, then it works. But the smallest nudge to the Indivision causes it to "pop out" immediately.
What's going on here? I can't believe it's supposed to be so. What can I do? Is it possible I have a non-standard A1200?

And the image quality is OK, but there's something strange with the aspect ratio - i.e. the image doesn't fill all of my monitor. The bottom part is always black, and sometimes (with some screen modes) the WB screen is just a square in the middle of the screen, taking maybe 60-70% of the screen area (it's not clipped, it's just too small).

Also, I received my new PCMCIA ADF transfer kit. I tried to insert it, but it wouldn't go all the way in. I checked why and found that several pins of the PCMCIA port are badly bent (beyond recovery) and a couple are broken. It seems that someone really tried to shove something in that slot with a hammer.
I suppose there's no way to replace the connector? Do I have to consider this Amiga a total loss?

Last question: Is there ANY way to disable the Blizzard 1230 Mk.II at boot WITHOUT having to physically disconnect it? :)

Thanks for the attention!

Thank you for the answers. Looks like I have the "HP Lisa" problem. I will open the case tonight and confirm that (I presently don't even know the motherboard revision...)
I looked to the place where the PCMCIA connector is soldered to the mainboard... and the pin density there is so high that I think even trying to desolder it would destroy the board. So I guess I have to buy another board. Anyone has a spare one to sell (located in Europe)? :)

The tutorial for fixing the Indivision socket is great. But as I have to find another motherboard soon, I may as well wait until then before modifying the Indy. By the way, if I do the fix, will it still be usable with the "Commodore Lisa"?

As for the Blizzard, I knew about the "2" key, but as zipper pointed out, it's only for Mk. IV. I was hoping there was something with the same effect on Mk. II...

I'll check about the dirty contacts... Should I clean the contacts (both the Lisa pins and the Indy ones) with alcohol?
I'm pretty sure I was pushing hard enough; the mainboard was bending under the strain, and I'm sure the Indy socket made perfect contact with the mainboard's PCB.
