that will be the 8 bit resolution sampling depth, compared to today's 16/32/64 + bits. you can reproduce quite accurately the sound of the amiga's Paula using most PC audio packages. you just will not hear it as standard on PCs.
The amiga did not do anything which a modern PC cannot reproduce or do better. But having said that, owning a real Amiga and learning how to use a computer from the Amiga's era is the best thing in the world for geeks and nerds like us.
